Healthy Minds / Greening The School - Phase 1
Regenerate the existing kitchen garden / improve water security​
​
The main objective of this phase is to re-generate the existing kitchen garden into a sustainable, productive, poly-culture system that will provide a healthy addition to the children’s diets. Other areas throughout the property will also be utilized fully to provide additional growing space for productive plant species. Water storage and catchment systems will also be installed to provide water security and enable the proper functioning of the entire system. The design and plan will be based on Permaculture Principles with a strong focus on the Ethics of Permaculture.
Healthy Minds / Greening The School - Phase 2
Establish a mudroom / food preparation area
The main objective of this phase is to build a mudroom / food preparation area where food from the kitchen garden can be washed and prepared for cooking before going to the kitchen. This will also provide a convenient area to collect food scraps for use in the compost bins, worm farms and as supplement feed for the chickens.

Upgrade & expand existing kitchen

​The objective of this phase is to build on an extension to the existing kitchen. This will provide much needed additional space for functional placement of kitchen appliances used for cooking daily meals.

Upgrade the classroom heating systems / rocket mass heaters

​The objective of this phase is to install rocket mass heaters in the classrooms to provide cost-effective, energy efficient, and clean burning heating solutions during the cold winter months.

Graywater systems, alternative energy systems

The objective of this phase is to install all the "nice-to-haves" that will support the overall garden plan, but also provide alternative energy solutions for the centre.
