ABOUT US

Mmabana Day Care Center had its humble beginnings in 1990 with only a handful of children being cared for by Mrs. Helen Rasedile at her home. Over the years, due to the high demand of parents that wanted to offer their children and toddlers the best care and preparation for primary school, the Day Care Center has grown to over 300 children with 10 teachers, 8 classes and 3 additional staff members.

The center is well positioned in Embalenhle to serve the local community, and provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment for the local children. The center is very popular and has strong links within the local communities. The day to day care and education of the children is the responsibility of the school principal, Mrs. Helen Rasedile and her trained staff. Children are prepared to go on to Primary Schools in the TEKS area.

In 2001 Helen registered the Day Care Center as a NPO, and applied for Government Grants to help feed the growing number of hungry mouths. Today the school provides breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks to the children, mostly provided for from the grants. However, this money only goes that far, and only provides for the basic needs of the children. Therefore the school also features a small vegetable garden where some vegetables and fruits are grown to supplement the children’s daytime meals and provide a healthy balanced meal.

There are 2 full-time cooks on the premises that start preparing meals early in the morning before most of the children have even arrived at school. There is also a full-time gardener / care-taker that ensure that the school grounds and gardens are always kept neat and tidy.
